Residing on the banks of artificial Periyar Lake at Thekkady, Periyar wildlife sanctuary uncovers nature’s secrets to the animal lovers. Thekkady brings to mind fleet of elephants, foggy hills, spice lands, tea plantations and boating. Periyar wildlife sanctuary spread across 777 sq km homes Bison, Wild boar, Sambar deer, Guars, Lion tailed Macaques, Nilgiri Langur, Nilgiri Tahrs, Elephants and Tigers. Boat cruises through the Periyar Lake is the best opportunity to observe the wildlife closely and to take photographs. The park is made up of tropical trees like teak, sandal woods, rose woods, mangoes, jamun, tamarind, banyans, bamboos, eucalyptus, and grass lands. Elephant rides are another alternative of enjoying the wildlife. Trekking is enjoyed to Mangaladevi temple - an ancient stone temple in the middle of the Thekkady forest.
